Choosing a wedding venue in Fife
Fife has water on three sides, and its wedding venues reflect it: castles and country house hotels inland, harbour villages and beaches along the coast, and St Andrews, Scotland's oldest university town. The south of the county is close enough to Edinburgh for guests to travel on the day, and the east feels like a weekend away.
Castles, coast or St Andrews
Inland Fife has castles and country house hotels in their own grounds, many with bedrooms and space for an outdoor ceremony. The coast gives you harbours and beaches for photographs. St Andrews pairs a historic town centre with hotels that can host the whole day.
Getting guests there
Most guests will come from Edinburgh or Glasgow. The Queensferry Crossing brings the south of Fife within about half an hour of Edinburgh, while St Andrews and the East Neuk are nearer an hour and a half by road. The closest railway station to St Andrews is Leuchars, a short taxi ride away, and Edinburgh Airport is the main airport for guests flying in.
St Andrews has its own calendar
St Andrews is the home of golf and a university town, and both fill its hotels. Check the golf calendar and the summer graduation weeks before you fix a date, especially if you expect guests to stay in the town.

Questions couples ask
How far is Fife from Edinburgh for a wedding?
The south of Fife is around half an hour from Edinburgh across the Queensferry Crossing. St Andrews and the East Neuk are nearer an hour and a half by road, so guests travelling that far usually stay the night.
Can we have a beach wedding in Fife?
Yes. Scotland allows a legally binding ceremony outdoors anywhere, provided your celebrant or registrar is authorised, your Marriage Schedule is in order and the owner of the spot agrees. The east coast can be cold and windy even in summer, so plan a sheltered alternative close by.
Do Fife wedding venues have accommodation?
Many castles, country house hotels and St Andrews hotels have bedrooms on site. For an exclusive-use venue, ask how many guests the house sleeps and what is nearby for everyone else.
