Wedding décor trends for 2027: what's in, what's changing and what really matters
Colour is coming back, centrepieces still set the room, and the best styling budget is the one spent where it shows. LBS Events on what Scottish couples are choosing for 2027.
Wedding décor has changed so much over the years, and if there is one thing we've learned at LBS Events, it's that no two couples want exactly the same wedding.
Some couples arrive with Pinterest boards full of ideas, while others haven't a clue where to begin. And that's absolutely fine. That's where having an experienced wedding stylist can make all the difference.
We've been working in the wedding industry since 2014, dressing venues, creating centrepieces, styling ceremonies and helping couples bring their ideas together.
One thing we always say is that your wedding should reflect you, not just what's fashionable at the time.
So, what's happening with wedding décor as we head into 2027?
The return of colour
For a long time, weddings were dominated by blush pink, ivory, champagne and sage green. All beautiful colours, and still very popular, but we're seeing wedding inspiration become a little more adventurous.
Burgundy, deep greens, chocolate browns, burnt orange and rich golds are making their way into wedding colour schemes. At the other end of the scale, soft butter yellow, powder blue and warm neutrals are bringing a fresh feel to spring and summer weddings.
But here's something worth remembering. Just because a colour is trending doesn't mean it will work in every venue.
A dark, traditional Scottish ballroom can look absolutely stunning with warm golds and candlelight, while a bright, modern venue might suit something softer.
Choose your venue first, then work your colours around the space.
Our advice
Centrepieces are still a big part of the room
Let's be honest, when guests walk into a wedding reception, one of the first things they notice is how the tables have been dressed.
Centrepieces can completely change the appearance of a room. Tall floral arrangements, elegant candle displays, statement vases and a mixture of high and low centrepieces can all work beautifully.
One trend we particularly like is mixing different heights throughout the room rather than making every table identical.
And you don't always need huge floral arrangements to create an impact. Sometimes a well-styled table with beautiful linen, charger plates, candles and a carefully chosen centrepiece looks just as impressive.
At LBS Events, we always look at the size of the room, the tables and the overall layout before recommending centrepieces. After all, nobody wants to spend their wedding breakfast trying to see the person sitting opposite them through a giant arrangement!
Draping and soft romantic styling
Draping is becoming a popular feature again, particularly for ceremony backdrops, top tables and larger reception rooms.
Soft fabrics can make a room feel warmer and more romantic, especially in venues with high ceilings or large open spaces. We love the way fabric can soften a room without taking away from the venue itself.
But it needs to be done properly. Not every venue allows draping to be attached to walls or ceilings, so always check what's possible before falling in love with an idea.
Candlelight never goes out of fashion
There is something about candlelight at a wedding that never gets old. Whether it's tall candle holders, floating candles or smaller displays mixed with flowers, the right lighting can make even a simple room feel special.
For autumn and winter weddings in Scotland, candlelight works particularly well when the evenings draw in early.
And remember, many venues have restrictions on naked flames, so good-quality LED candles can be a practical alternative.
Making your wedding décor work twice
This is something we think more couples should consider. If you're having a ceremony and reception in the same venue, why not look at ways to use some of your decorations twice?
A beautiful ceremony backdrop might be suitable behind your top table later in the day. Certain floral arrangements could be moved to the reception entrance or cake table.
It won't work with every design, and you'll need to allow time for the room changeover, but it's worth discussing with your stylist.
Good wedding décor isn't always about spending more money. Sometimes it's about making better use of what you've already chosen.
Personal touches are becoming more important
We're seeing a move away from weddings that all look exactly the same. Couples want little details that mean something to them.
It might be a memory table for loved ones who are no longer here, a personalised welcome sign, photographs from their relationship or a colour scheme that has a special meaning. These are often the things guests remember.
Your wedding doesn't need to look like somebody else's Instagram page. It should feel like your own celebration.
Don't forget the chairs, linen and finishing touches
This is an area that couples sometimes overlook when planning their budget. You might have beautiful centrepieces and flowers, but if the chair styling, table linen and overall colour scheme don't work together, the room can feel unfinished.
Chair covers, sashes, Chiavari chairs, table runners, napkins and charger plates can all help bring the design together.
That doesn't mean you need every single item. Sometimes less really is more, particularly if your venue already has beautiful chairs and tables. We always recommend looking at the room as a whole rather than choosing decorations individually.
The reality of wedding budgets
Wedding décor can be expensive, and we know couples are already dealing with the cost of venues, catering, photography, entertainment and everything else that goes into their day.
Our advice is simple: decide which areas matter most to you. Would you rather have a beautiful ceremony backdrop that features in your photographs, or would you prefer to concentrate your budget on the reception tables? Perhaps your venue is already stunning and only needs a few finishing touches.
You don't have to decorate every corner of the room.
At LBS Events, we believe beautiful weddings should be achievable across different budgets. It's about making the right choices, not simply adding more decorations.
Our advice for couples planning their 2027 or 2028 wedding
- Visit your venue before booking décor, and take plenty of photographs.
- Look at the chairs, tables, carpets, curtains, lighting and the size of the room.
- Ask your venue what decorations are included and whether there are any restrictions.
- Sit down with your wedding stylist and discuss what you'd really like to achieve.
- Be open about your budget from the beginning — it makes it much easier to put together ideas that are realistic.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions.
After more than a decade in the wedding industry, we know that sometimes the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.
A final word from LBS Events
Trends will always come and go. One year everyone wants a particular colour, the next year it's something completely different.
But beautiful wedding styling is about more than following trends. It's about walking into your venue on your wedding day and feeling that everything has come together exactly as you imagined.
Whether you're dreaming of a grand ballroom filled with flowers and candlelight or something simple, romantic and understated, the most important thing is that it feels right for you.
