About Hazel Sharp — Humanist Haze
My name is Hazel Sharp, otherwise known as Humanist Haze. I am a humanist celebrant based in central Scotland.
Searching for a celebrant can be like bravely venturing into the wild world of online dating — scrolling past numerous strangers until you spot one that's worthy of a 'swipe right'! So let's see if we're a match…
I have been a qualified humanist celebrant since 2018. I conduct legal marriages (authorised through Humanist Ceremonies Scotland), civil partnerships, and non-legal (symbolic) ceremonies such as vow renewals and commitment ceremonies.
I believe ceremonies should feel like you — not 'cookie-cutter', and definitely not AI-generated. My ceremonies are delivered from the heart and with appropriate humour — the perfect balance of sentiment and scintillating, keeping you and your guests engaged. I'm emotionally invested but do not make it about me — less performance, more presence. Feel free to check out Facebook reviews from some of my gorgeous couples.
My ceremonies are authentically humanist, so non-religious. That said, while the ceremony can't include acts of religious worship such as hymns and prayers, you can include readings with religious origins, normally delivered by one of your guests.
And even if one or both of you have a religious faith, you can still choose to have a humanist ceremony, which is inclusive of all faiths and none. Some of my couples have had a church blessing before or after their wedding.
When I'm not conducting ceremonies, I love spending time with my dogs, Roxy and Reggie, drinking wine, eating food, travelling, going to gigs and watching movies and documentaries — not necessarily in that order. That said, my dogs always come first!
I live in my hometown of Grangemouth and typically conduct ceremonies across the central belt. I am willing to travel further afield though, although I prefer not to leave my precious pooches alone for any more than 4 hours. That allows me an hour for travel each way to and from your venue, arriving an hour before your ceremony starts, and up to an hour for the ceremony itself.
From Grangemouth, an hour's travel takes me as far north as Perth, south to Biggar, east to Dunbar and west to Loch Lomond, and everywhere within that circumference. I do make exceptions if I can get a sitter or day care for the fur babies though, so don't be put off enquiring if your venue is outside my normal cover area.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should we book?
Most couples book at least 12 months in advance, but last-minute bookings can be possible, especially outside the summer months and midweek.
Do you travel across Scotland?
From Grangemouth, I typically travel as far north as Perth, south to Biggar, east to Dunbar and west to Loch Lomond, and everywhere within that circumference. I do make exceptions if I can get a sitter or day care for the fur babies, though, so don't be put off enquiring if your venue is outside my normal cover area.
How does the enquiry process work?
If you submit an enquiry via the form or email me directly, I'll aim to reply with further information, including fees, within 48 hours. You are invited to have an informal, no-obligation chat or meeting with me. I hold your date provisionally for 2 weeks. To secure your date, a non-refundable deposit of £100 is required, with the final balance not due until 4 weeks before your wedding date.
What happens after we book?
You won't hear from me until around 6 months before your wedding date, when I send your 'homework' (although you are free to contact me anytime with any questions). We would then get together around 3 months before your wedding date (ideally face-to-face) to discuss your ceremony requirements in detail. From there, the drafting of your ceremony starts — and you have total control of the final version.
